The Junior Hurlers had a major win over Mountrath CS in the Leinster Semi Final on Wednesday last.
The game was played in a very wet and windy Dicksboro GAA grounds.
Playing with the wind in the first half St Peter’s got off to a great start with two early goals from Kyle Firman. Points from Michael Codd and Conor Hearne had the Wexford men leading by 7 points entering the last minute when Mountrath struck for a goal with a 65 evading all players and nestling in the corner of the net. 2-5 to 1-4 the half time score.
Buoyed by the late strike and the elements at their back, the Laois men scored the first two points of the second half. St Peter’s regained their 3 point lead with scores from Jack Devereux and Rory O Connor.
With Mountrath looking for the all important goal to send the game to extra time, it took some excellent defending from Dylan Lyne, Ben Moore and Eoin O Leary to keep them out.
St Peter’s held on to gain the victory on a score line of 2-8 to 1-9 and progress to play hotly fancied and local neighbours Good Counsel College in the Leinster Final. This will be held late next week with venue and time to be announced.
