Junior Hurling

St. Peter’s College Junior hurlers got their championship campaign off to a winning start on Monday September 22nd when they accounted for St. Kieran’s of Kilkenny on a score line of 1-18 to 3-09. Played in ideal conditions in the newly developed Power Park, this game provided tremendous entertainment for those present and it was St. Peter’s who finished strongly to record a well earned victory.

Goals either side of half time helped St. Kieran’s into a 6 point lead early in the second half, but a succession of points, both from play and from placed balls paved the way for success at the final whistle. However, St. Peter’s had to withstand heavy pressure from Kieran’s in the last few minutes as they tried desperately to fashion an equalising goal. Overall this was a great team performance in a tight match with a high level of skill displayed by both teams.

It was a fitting opening match on the new surface and great credit is due to Jason and his team for having the pitch in such condition. St. Peter’s now move on to play St. Brendan’s of Birr and Castlecomer of Kilkenny in their remaining matches. Thanks to the players and mentors for their efforts and to the parents, teachers and students who provided such great support on the day.
