The senior hurling campaign for 2015 came to an end on Thursday 20th March when we were defeated by Thurles CBS in the All Ireland Semi Final. Played in ideal conditions in WIT, St. Peter’s got of to a flying start and led by 1-1 to no score after 4 minutes. They continued this good form for most of the first half but a tactical switch by Thurles helped to shore up their defence and that together with the last 3 points of the first half meant that they arrived at half time level at 1-9 to 12 points. Thurles had the whirlwind start to the second half with 2 points inside the first 90 seconds, but after 16 minutes there was still only a point between the teams. It was nip and tuck from then to the end and unfortunately for St. Peter’s the final whistle blew when Thurles had edged in front by 3 points – 0-18 to 1-12. And so the exciting journey for 2015 came to an end and it is Thurles who go forward to contest the All Ireland Final. However, St. Peter’s can look back with pride on a season that saw them play 6 championship matches winning 4. The style and quality of some of their hurling was a joy to behold and the excitement and buzz that the campaign generated throughout the school community was a throwback to the old days. 6 busloads of supporters made the journey and they provided a fitting background to an epic contest on the pitch. We say a sincere thanks to the team and their mentors for the work they put in to achieve those results and we wish Thurles CBS good luck in the final.
