St. Peter's make no mistake in Keevans Cup Replay
S.P.C. 0-08
Good Counsel 0-05

The match took place in cold but dry conditions at Tom Somers Park in Gusserane on Friday, resulting in a three-point win for St.Peter's over their old rivals Good Counsel College, New Ross. The teams were level on 0-5 each with 15 minutes remaining but the overall strength of St. Peter's was very evident as they dominated the final quarter. St. Peter's went from strength to strength and were worthy winners as Rhys Clarke, substitute Liam Rochford and Glen Murphy kicked over the winning points from play before the end. The cup was presented to the captain of the St. Peter's team Brendan Hughes by Shay Keevans. Rhys Clarke was presented the man of the match trophy also of St. Peter's College.

THE 2007-2008 SENIOR FOOTBALL YEAR
The senior football team had 2 South Leinster League games in September 2007, where they were beaten by Good Counsel, New Ross and Carlow C.B.S. They subsequently lost their third league game to Athy C.B.S. in early October 2007. The South Leinster League gave team mentors M. Keane, C O’Gara and M. Caulfield a chance to look at a good number of players in a competitive setting. It also gave players the opportunity to wear the college colours. Some were getting their first chance to play for the college, a memory they will always have to boast about in years to come.

After the South Leinster League the focus of all dual players was on the Hurling and only a handful of non –hurling players were asked to train for football. This may have been a mistake as soon the enthusiasm of the players and the mentors seemed to wane. It would be beneficial to have some form of regular training for the full panel in the months of November and December.

As it turned out the senior footballers only had two meaningful weeks preparation in January for their first championship match. This preparation took the shape of two games: one against F.C.J. Bunclody and one against Good Counsel, New Ross. Both games were lost, but the benefits were seen on the 24th of January when Carlow C.B.S. were comprehensively beaten in Power Park. This gave everyone involved in football in the College a huge lift, as a place in the Leinster quarter-final was the prize. Training was stepped up with full attendance as there were realistic hopes of reaching the semi-finals. However, the dream did not become a reality with Athlone Community College winning by six points at the Eire Og grounds in Carlow on 2nd February, 2008. Only had to feel particularly sorry for Brian O’Flaherty, Sean O’Corcora and Ciaran Redmond who had put so much time and effort into this championship.

December News and Update

Training has not been going well due to the involvement of dual players who were playing with the senior hurlers in the Leinster League and due to club commitments. The Leinster Senior Football Championship now beckons on the 25th of January 2008.
