PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION INTO 1st YEAR

  • Application Forms are available from the School Office during normal school hours OR may be posted out to parent(s)/guardian(s) on request.

  • Alternatively you can download a form and post it back to us by clicking here >>>

  • The school accepts Application Forms in respect of boys on and from the time they enter 1st Class in national school.

  • Prospective students must be a minimum of 12 years of age by 1st January in the Calendar Year following the student’s entry into First Year in Secondary school.

  • Applications are accepted on a first come – first served basis, subject to criteria set out below.

  • The completed Application Form is filed under the proposed year of enrolment in order of date received.

  • The school will acknowledge receipt of the Application Form by returning a copy of same to parent(s)/guardian(s), stamped with the receipt date.

  • It is the responsibility of the parent(s)/guardian(s) to notify the school, in writing, of any changes in the details contained on the Application Form including change of address.

  • In November/December preceding the students year of entry, the school will contact parent(s)/guardian(s), in writing, asking for confirmation of their application for the following September - by completing a more detailed information questionnaire and asking for payment of a non-refundable deposit.

  • Parent(s)/Guardian(s) are afforded 14 days in which to confirm/reject and/or notify the school of any changes.

  • Confirmation of a place is conditional on the following:

    1. Receipt of completed Application Form
    2. Receipt of non-refundable deposit
    3. Signed Acceptance by the Parent & Student of the School Rules
    4. Receipt of full information regarding any medical condition and/or special educational needs of student

Failure to disclose full information regarding any medical condition or special needs may result in loss of place. (See sections on Student Medical Condition and Special Educational Needs)

  • In mid-January the school will advise parent(s)/guardian(s) in writing of “Information Night” which is usually held at end of January. They are also given preliminary notice of “Date of Assessment”. A notice regarding the “Information Night” is also published in local newspaper.

  • An “Assessment Day” is held on a Saturday near the end of March /beginning of April prior to student commencing in September. Parent(s)/ Guardian(s) of accepted pupils are notified, in writing, at least 10 days in advance of the date of the assessment.

  • Should the demand for 1st Year places exceed availability, the Principal will notify, in writing, the parent(s)/guardian(s) of unsuccessful students that it is not possible to offer them a place. This is usually done within three weeks after the Assessment Day in April.

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) are notified during the first week of July of their son’s Class Allocation.

They also receive a Book List relevant to the Class allocated and notification of commencement date in August/September.

Criteria For Offering Places In First Year

As already stated the school accepts application forms in respect of boys from the time they reach First Class in National School. Completed application forms are filed in order of “Date of Receipt” under the proposed year of entry.

The Board of Management will decide on a year-to-year basis, the number of places that will be offered in First Year.

Where the demand for places exceeds the number of places available the following criteria, adopted by the Board of Management, will be used to allocate places.

Priority will be given to the following categories of students

  • Sons of Staff members
  • Sons of Members of the Board of Management
  • Brothers of students past or present who attended the school
  • Sons of Past Pupils

For all other applicants

  • Date order of receipt of fully completed application form.
