Introduction>>Learning Support>> Back to Section Heading
In any school of this size there will always be pupils who have problems of one kind or another, who fail to settle down to work quickly, who have a poor attendance record or who are not reaching their full potential. St. Peter’s has a formal Pastoral Care structure to help and encourage all pupils.
Class Tutor:
Each class has a Tutor who encourages and monitors the progress of pupils in a particular class. The Tutor meets the class at least four times a week. The Tutor also communicates the day notices to the class, checks on attendance and punctuality and checks and signs the School Journal. He/she will also liaise regularly with the Year Head.
Year Head:
Each Year Head has responsibility for a particular Year group. He/she consults regularly with the Class Tutors to identify pupils with particular problems. The Year Head meets with pupils regularly and will contact and meet with parents if and when necessary.
The Year Head is also available at specified times to meet or talk to parents. The Year Head also co-ordinates the School Reports and organises the Parent/Teacher meetings.
The First “Year Head” is Mr. Doyle.
Chaplain:
Fr. Aodhan, the School Chaplain, provides an invaluable service to the school, not only in providing Liturgies and chaplaincy services but also in the area of counseling. Fr. Aodhan is available to meet students individually and to talk to parents.
Career Guidance:
The school has the services of a full time Career Guidance Teacher, Mr. O’Sullivan, who is available to all students and parents.
Learning Support:
There is a Learning Support Service available in the school. This is still in its development stage and more detailed information in relation to this service is dealt with separately under “Learning Support”.
As stated elsewhere, academic excellence is integrated with personal, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development.
In St. Peter’s the teachers, Class Tutors, Year Head, Deputy Principal and Principal all work together as a team to provide support and encouragement for all our pupils.
