| Wexford Inter Schools League | ||
The Wexford Inter Schools League had another successful day as the St. Peter's A side faced Wexford CBS and our own B side in a two in a row match line up. The first match was SPC (A) vrs. Wexford CBS, the A side showed their skill from start to finish and every substitution counted to a comprehensive victory for St. Peter's. A great performance of sportsmanship and talent from both sides made great viewing. Our MVP for the day was Patrick O'Connor as he played some outstanding basketball. St. Peter's College A 51 - 2 Wexford CBS. The second match The second match was one worth waiting for, group leaders SPC (B) had to now face the A side. The first quarter was outstanding with some credited defensive and offensive moves. SPC (B) took the lead at the end of the first quarter in a very close 8 - 6 lead. The A side stepped up their game as they figured a slight gap in the (B) defence. This gave them the foot holding to secure another comprehensive win. SPC (A) 54 - 21 SPC (B). The MVP for the day is our long standing player Ciaran Murphy. Ciaran has been with us for five years and represents the school each year. His day to shine came today as Ciaran scored an "amazing" three pointer from an unbelievable distance. His team mates ran on court to cheer him on in making his mark on the match. His defensive moves and possession of the ball has always led to some great shots and scores but today he led himself to some glory. SPC A team players: Eoin Fitzgerald, Andre Butler, Andy Furlong, James Dooley, Cian Newport, Cian Lambert, Kieran Walsh, Ciaran Murphy and Patrick O'Connor. SPC B team players: Ronan O'Donnel, Ronan Jones, Ronan Finn, Aaron Doyle, Rober Modler, Anas Ibraham, David Gormley and Joesph Mahon. Finals day change: The Wexford Inter Schools Final day has been changed from Wednesday the 8th of February to a PROVISIONAL day of Tuesday the 7th. Both U19 teams will face each other once more and our U16 side face Bridgetown in their final. Good luck to all players and bring home the gold for the school!! |

| Bridgetown VEC Vs SPC B U19s | ||
Date: 21/11/11 Score: 32 - 23 Panel: Adam Reynolds, Ronan O’Donnell, Anas Ibrahim, Ronan Jones, Aaron Doyle, John Scallan, James Guiney, Joseph Mahon, David Gormley, Bill Eviston MVP: David Gormley For their first outing of the season, this was an excellent performance from this team. Although it took a while for them to get their feet, the team settled very well and began to play more together and communicate more. Bridgetown led after the first quarter, but SPC outscored them in the second quarter, and maintained that lead to the end, despite a strong comeback from Bridgetown in the final quarter. There was some excellent play from David Gormley, Bill Eviston and Joseph Mahon in particular, but in truth, all members of the team contributed greatly. Well done to all on a deserved victory. |

| Bridgetown VEC Vs SPC (B)U16s | ||
Date: 21/11/11 Panel: Elliott Samuel, Ben Powell, Seán Hore, Ryan O’Donnell, Conall Callery, Simon Clancy, Gareth Jones, Daniel O’Regan, Aengus O’Neill, Robert Murphy MVP:Conall Callery. This was a tough match against a well-polished Bridgetown side. Bridgetown outclassed this very young SPC side, for whom this was their first taste of competitive basketball. As the game developed, the team gelled together more and improved as a squad. There is plenty of potential to be seen in this team for the future. |

| U19's - SPC vs Bridgetown VEC | ||
SPC 48 Bridgetown 23 The experience of playing since second year was evident from a very strong and impressive St. Peter's side. Early scoring, accurate passing and supurb shooting made all the difference in this match. The starting five line up of Cian Lambert, Paddy O' Connor, Kieran Walsh, Andy Furlong and Eoin Fitzgerald got the game off to a great start. Excellent performances were shown by Andrew Butler and James Dooley proved to keep the sides momentum up. The level of passing and plays shown in todays match set up by Cian Lambert, Andy Furlong and Andrew Butler was nothing short of impressive. This however can only be achieved with the support of an entire team. Supurb shooting must be recognised by our shooter Paddy O' Connor who never seems to miss when the pressure is on. As an awesome defense was made by Eoin Fitzgerald who never seems to give up even with an attack from a determined offensive side. Substitutions late into the game gave it new energy from Ciaran Murphy, Adam Reynolds and Anas Ibraham. The side support and players for our upcoming games were given by: Cian Newport, Ciaran Walsh and Aaron Redmond. Congratulations to the St. Peter's boys on an excellent performance on and off the court. A very commendable performance must be given to the Bridgetown side. MVP: Andy Furlong |

| SPC vs Bridgetown VEC | ||
U16's SPC 21 Bridgetown VEC 24 This was the teams first outing and it proved to be the making of them. After a very hit and miss first quater the team of Kevin Doyle, Cameron Steel, Sean Maher, Dermot Fortune and Tom Reville showed true team potential. The Bridgetown side were strong and tall making defense very difficult indeed. However after a couple of breaks from the SPC side they showed that they will be a team to reckon with over the coming Wexford School's League. Back up was supplied by: Conor Gaffney, Elliot Samuel, James Lynch, Peter Callaghan, Cian O'Callaghan, Ciaran O' Brien and Sean Mordaunt. As this was the first game of the season much will be taken from it for future matches the team will have. Well done on a fantastic performance and congratulations to the Bridgetown side. MVP: Sean Maher |

Date: 17/11/10 Score: 51 - 19 Panel: Cian Lambert, Michael Eviston, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Patrick O’Connor, Andrew Butler, Carl Fox, Zach Corish, Steven Dwyer, Brian Dunne, Andrew Furlong, Daniel McGuire, James Dooley, Shane Roche, Ciarán Murphy, Cian Newport. MVP: Carl Fox. A well-deserved victory for the U19s, with a much-improved performance by all. They really started talking to each other, and playing like a team. Carl Fox was top-scorer, with excellent baskets from Michael Eviston, Cian Lambert and Paddy O’Connor. Some strong contributions from Andy Furlong, James Dooley and Eoghan Fitzgeral. Overall, a good day’s work. Well done to all. ![]() |

| SPC Vs Bridgetown VEC U16s | ||
Date: 17/11/10 Score: 49 - 23 Panel: Ronan Jones, Ronan O’Donnell, David Higgins, Joseph Mahon, Evan Devereux, Robert Modler, David Gormley, Dermot Fortune, Bill Eviston, Cormac O’Rourke, Nicholas Lacey, Conor Murphy MVP: Ronan Jones. This was a much-improved performance from the SPC U16s, who are going from strength to strength. The defence remained very strong, and Bridgetown found it difficult to break through. There were some excellent scores from Ronan Jones, David Higgins, Robert Modler, and Bill Eviston under the basket. SPC maintained their focus right to the very end. Well done to all. |
| De La Salle College, Wicklow Vs SPC - U19s | ||
Date: 15/11/10 Match 3 Score: 22 - 32 Panel: Cian Lambert, Michael Eviston, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Patrick O’Connor, Andrew Butler, Carl Fox, Zach Corish, Steven Dwyer, Brian Dunne, Andrew Furlong, Daniel McGuire, Shane Roche. MVP: Cian Lambert. A heartbreaking game for SPC – their 2nd game in the day. We were ahead up to the last quarter, and De La Salle returned in the last quarter to out-score us and take the lead. It was unfortunate. Although there were tired bodies playing their second intense game of the day, the team played better again than they had earlier in the day, which bodes well for the future. Some fine performances from Eoghan Fitzgerald and Paddy O’Connor, with Cian Lambert playing amazing basketball on both defence and offence – inspirational stuff! Hard luck to all ![]() |

| Avondale Community College Vs SPC U-16'S | ||
Date: 15/11/10 Match Number 1 Score: 19 - 13 Panel: Ronan Jones, Ronan O’Donnell, David Higgins, Joseph Mahon, Evan Devereux, Robert Modler, David Gormley, Dermot Fortune, Galen Riordan, Bill Eviston, Cormac O’Rourke. MVP: Cormac O’Rourke. For their first competitive match of the season, the U16s played very well, and started to gel more as a team by the end of the match. They were up against a very good Avondale side, who won the game in the end. SPC were ahead in the match at half-time, but Avondale came back very strongly. There is much potential in this U16s squad, with some fine performances from David Higgins, Bill Eviston and MVP Cormac O’Rourke (in his first basketball match for SPC). Hard luck to the team. |
| Avondale Community College Vs SPC U19s | ||
Date: 15/11/10 Match Number 2 Score: 24 - 22 Panel: Cian Lambert, Michael Eviston, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Patrick O’Connor, Andrew Butler, Carl Fox, Zach Corish, Steven Dwyer, Brian Dunne, Andrew Furlong, Daniel McGuire, James Dooley. MVP: Andy Furlong. An unfortunate start to the day for St. Peter’s. We started strongly and played some very good basketball throughout most of the game. Our defence, as ever, proved very strong, and kept Avondale out. There was progress to be seen from our first match of the season on offence, and in general, on working together as a team. Unfortunately, we lost our concentration, and Avondale scored some valuable baskets in the last quarter to win-out the game. Carl Fox was our top-scorer with 8 points. Andy Furlong was an excellent play-maker and dictated the play for much of the match. |

| S.P.C. U 16's Vs Presentation College U19s | ||
Challenge Match Date: 11/11/10 Score: 31 - 22 Panel: Ronan Jones, Ronan O’Donnell, David Higgins, Galen Riordan, Cormac O’Rourke, Evan Deveraux, Robert Modler, David Gormley, Seán Maher, Joe Mahon, Bill Eviston, Dermot Fortune. MVP: Cormac O’Rourke. St. Peter’s proved to be too strong of an opposition for the Senior Pres girls. This was the first game for many of our players, and all of them played very well. Our defence in particular was excellent, and it was tough for the girls to break through. There was some good link-up play between David Higgins, Bill Eviston and Ronan O’Donnell. The U16s first league match of the season will be in Rathdrum on Monday. Good luck to all. Next match on Monday 15th November |
| U19s SPC Vs Bagnelstown Community College | ||
DATE: 10/11/10 Match 1 Score: 35 - 30 Panel: Cian Lambert, Michael Eviston, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Patrick O’Connor, Andrew Butler, Carl Fox, Zach Corish, Shane Roche, Brian Dunne, Andrew Furlong, Daniel McGuire, James Dooley. MVP: Michael Eviston. The opening match of the season proved to be a tough one for St. Peter’s College, against a good Bagnelstown side. Bagnelstown started strongly, and St. Peter’s came back and went ahead for a time. But Bagnelstown’s accuracy of shooting proved the difference in the teams. SPC found it difficult to convert their chances. Some good individual play at times today. But lots to improve on. |

| Basketball 2009 - 2010 UPDATE | ||
The school had two basketball teams in competition this year – the U-16 level and U-19. Unfortunately, despite some good performances the U-19 didn’t qualify for the play offs. Well done to the team and mentors for their hard work. The U-16’s however had a very successful season. They were undefeated in their preliminary rounds defeating teams from Wexford, Wicklow and Tipperary. They qualified for the All Ireland play offs and were eventually defeated by the host team from Limerick. The following team members of the U-16 basketball team were presented with medals at the end of year mass to acknowledge their achievement: Cian Lambert, , Evan Devereux, , Bill Eviston, Joseph Mahon, John McAuliffe, David Higgins, David Gormley, Andrew Butler, Ronan Jones, Neal Rossiter, Nicholas Lacey, Conor Murphy, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Patrick O’Connor and Paul Fox. . A special thank you to Carol Doyleof Barntown, who helped to coach the teams during the year along with Ms. C O'Brien and Mr. S. Rossitter. |

SPC Vs Kilrush Community College Venue: Canon Hayes Recreation Centre, Tipperary Date: 22/01/10 Score: 42 - 35 Panel:Cian Lambert, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Andrew Butler, Evan Devereux, Patrick O’Connor, Bill Eviston, Nicholas Leacy, Conor Murphy, John McAuliffe, David Higgins, David Gormley, Neal Rossiter. MVP:Cian Lambert. SPC started this game knowing that they had to win this game by a minimum of 2 points in order to qualify for the All-Irelands – they did well! This was another very tough match, with both teams finishing level after both the first and second quarters. By the end of the third, SPC were only 2 points ahead, and then in the final quarter, their fitness and skill really paid-off, and they outscored the opposition. This was a great win for this team, and well done to all members of the panel. Each team at the All-Ireland Qualifiers lost a game, but SPC had the best scoring difference. The U16s have now qualified for the All-Irelands, which will be held in Tipperary on Fri 5th February @ The Presentation Secondary School ,Thurles Best of luck to all! |

There were excellent scores from all team members. But unfortunately for us, Rochestown came storming back and took the lead in the last quarter. SPC found it very hard to regain the lead, though they never gave up, and continued to fight until the final whistle. |

U16s Regional Final DATE: 16/12/09 Score: 34 - 31 Panel:Cian Lambert, Eoghan Fitzgerald, Evan Devereux, Patrick O’Connor, Bill Eviston, Joseph Mahon, Paul Fox, John McAuliffe, David Higgins, David Gormley, Andrew Butler, Ronan Jones. MVP:Andrew Butler. Hard luck to the U16s. This was their toughest game yet. Bagnelstown had some very good players. SPC started well, and by the end of the third quarter, we had pulled-back the lead. But our accuracy at the basket wasn’t as good on the day as before, and in the end, this was the deciding factor. SPC really fought and fought till the final whistle. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The entire team are really disappointed, but the coaches are very proud of their commitment, effort and behaviour throughout. We couldn’t have asked for more. Congratulations to Bagnelstown Community College on winning the final. Hard luck to St. Peter’s College. Both teams now qualify for the All-Ireland Play-Offs in January. |

Date:14/10/08 Time:10.00am Venue: St. Peter’s College Score: 21 – 15 This was a commanding performance overall from St. Peter’s. Although they got off to a slow start, with Bridgetown leading 2-5 after the first quarter, St. Peter’s began to move the ball much better, and their efforts paid off. Some fabulous shots and scores from team captain Gary Nagle. Impressive offensive play also by James Dooley in particular, Eoghan Fitzgerald and Patrick O’Connor. Defence held very strong, with Stephen Dywer, James Dooley, Brian Dunne and Michael Eviston deserving special mention here. All players worked extremely hard for the team, with everyone improving from their last outing. Well done all. | U19 BASKETBALL SEASON 2007/08 | ||
The expectations were high, hoping to build on the success from last year, as training began in earnest at the end of September. St. Peter’s College Vs Bridgetown VC Our opening game of the season saw a convincing performance by the home side. Showing the advantage of playing at home, St. Peter’s settled well, and established an authority on the game from early on. However, Bridgetown rallied well and reduced the margin down – worrying times for St. Peter’s. Luckily, we held on to eventually claim the victory. A lucky omen for the season??! Team: Paul Gannon, Tony McGuire, Seán Heaney, Darragh McSweeney, John McGuire, Eoin McCarthy, David Kavanagh, Killian O’Gorman, Robbie McCarthy, Keryll Sutton, James Curtis, Paul O’Brien Coláiste Dún Iascaigh, Cahir Vs St. Peter’s College The first away game! This was the game of the season as regards excitement! St. Peter’s out-shot Cahir in all of the quarters, except the last! Although going behind in the last quarter, we never gave up, right up to the final whistle. A three-pointer, thrown from the half-way-line at the end of the first half was rightly not awarded, but if only...! Although obviously disappointed about the defeat, the team spirit and never-say-die attitude was evident in each player – an admirable quality to foster. Team: Paul Gannon, Tony McGuire, Seán Heaney, Shane O’Connor, John McGuire, Eoin McCarthy, David Kavanagh, Killian O’Gorman, Robbie McCarthy, Keryll Sutton, James Curtis, Brendan Quinlivan Blackwater CS, Lismore Vs St. Peter’s College Lismore very kindly agreed to host this game in Waterford city, to help reduce our travel-time (we hate missing class!). St. Peter’s ran out convincing winners again by the end, while acknowledging the talent of a young opposition. We worked extremely hard throughout the game, maintaining an excellent work-rate, which saw us crawl-back from a defecit, to eventually go ahead and win. The players kept a cool head, and worked very hard for the team. A commendable performance by all. Team: Seán Heaney, Paul Gannon, Killian O’Gorman, Robbie McCarthy, Eoin McCarthy, Keryll Sutton, Shane O’Connor, James Curtis, David Kavanagh, John McGuire, Tony McGuire, Tim Hynes Presentation de la Salle, Bagnelstown Vs St. Peter’s College After a slight hitch in the directions to the venue..., St. Peter’s met a very decent side in the form of Presentation de la Salle, Bagnelstown. The opposition stormed ahead of us, leaving our team with a considerable defecit to make up by half time. However, Bagnelstown never reduced the pressure, and although St. Peter’s fought back and reduced the margin, Bagnelstown ran out worthy winners in the end. St. Peter’s again showed great resilience and team spirit, and never gave up to the end. Team: James Curtis, Paul Gannon, Carl Fox, Seán Heaney, David Kavanagh, Eoin McCarthy, Robbie McCarthy, John McGuire, Tony McGuire, Killian Murphy, Gary Nagle, Shane O’Connor, Keril Sutton. To the future... Although no titles were won, this team grew from strength to strength. When they went behind in games, they dug deep, and never gave up, fighting to the final whistle. Sometimes, they got their reward; other times, they didn’t. But considering that the basketball season is so short, some players never played basketball up to this year, some players have other sports to play, and in general, the fact that basketball is only available competitively within the school and not in any external clubs, these players are brilliant. The change in some, if not all, is unbelievable. Many have excelled so much, and improved beyond words; and its all down to a dedication to training, an enjoyment of playing a game, and down to their team-mates, who always will them on. It has been a pleasure to be involved with them. |

With talent ripping through the squad, we were looking forward to our matches! St. Peter’s College Vs Bridgetown VC A convincing victory, with the home side dominating from start to finish. We got to practice different strategies and tactics, and some star players showed their worth from the off, sowing a great expectation for the matches to follow. Coláiste Dún Iascaigh, Cahir Vs St. Peter’s College Similar to the U19 game, this game ended up a thriller. St. Peter’s opened up a commanding lead from the off, and seemed to be comfortable enough. But credit is due to Cahir, who responded very well to claw-back a big lead to reach within only 3 baskets. We showed a great resilience and didn’t give-in, ending up winning at the final whistle. De la Salle Wicklow Vs St. Peter’s College Regional semi-finals: an unbelievable game! Following a lengthy period without a game, St. Peter’s were worried that they would be ‘rusty’. But they managed to pull-off one of their best performances to date, and almost managed to win their place in the final. However they were facing a tough and more-experienced side in the form of De La Salle, Wicklow. Again, outstanding performances by individuals and by the team as a whole, who played ‘out of their skins!’ Well done to all. Sincere thanks also to Ms. Hennessey for her dedication and hard work particularly with the U16s. Merci beaucoup! To the future... These boys will be back!!!! Great team spirit and individual skill shows promising for these players’ progression to the senior ranks. |
